How these answers are made

Choosing the questions. Questions are chosen from what patients and parents actually search for and ask. Each is written in the words a reader would use.

Finding the research. For each question, the published research is searched. This includes practice guidelines from orthopedic and pediatric medical societies, the orthopedic journals, and PubMed, the United States National Library of Medicine’s database of medical research. An AI tool built for searching medical research is asked the same question as a second check.

Checking. The key studies behind each answer are checked against the original papers. A claim that cannot be confirmed in a published paper is left out.

Writing. Each answer is drafted with AI assistance, then reviewed and edited by Dr. Sheikh. Every answer lists the studies it relies on, with links.

Spanish versions. The Spanish pages are translated from the English with AI assistance and checked against the English. If the two versions differ, the English version is the reference.

Keeping pages current. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. Medical evidence changes, and pages may be updated or removed.
